Raising Funds for HospiceCare

This is a DRUM ROLL moment.... These incredible, Community Fundraising local ladies have raised over £37,000 for HospiceCare since 2007.

Over the years, they have organised coffee mornings, Tea Party & Talks as well as a fundraising Ball. Only this week they organised a coffee morning in the village of Lesbury and raised nearly £1,000. Pictured L-R, Sandra Keenan, Sally Nicholson, Sue Wright and Ann August.

What a momumental acheivement by an inspiration group of ladies.

Charity Golf Day

We had our best-ever Charity Golf Day yesterday at Alnmouth Golf Club, Foxton, since the event was created back in 2010. Our Golf Day was supported by 33 teams and generated a fantastic £6,037.03 for HospiceCare, which will support the delivery of 240 hours of Hospice at Home. Special thanks must go to Peter Simpson, Secretary of Alnmouth Golf Club, for generously donating the day to HospiceCare. Here's the winning team - MKM, Alnwick!

How you can support Dying Matters Awareness Week

Dying Matters Awareness Week is an unparalleled opportunity to place the importance of talking about dying, death and bereavement firmly on the national agenda.

Hold your own Dying Matters Awareness event

A Dying Matters Awareness Week event can be large, small or anywhere in-between. You could host a coffee morning in your home, place of work, or a meet-up in your local community space and yes, that could be your local pub!

During the week we would ask you to be encouraging your friends, family, work colleagues and neighbours to discuss what they want for the end of their lives with those close to them. You could also be encouraging people to take five simple steps to make their end of life experience better, both for them and for their loved ones. These are:

  • Write your will
  • Record your funeral wishes
  • Plan your future care and support
  • Consider registering as an organ donor
  • Tell your loved ones your wishes

Ideally, you will base any events you run around these actions. However, as long as what you're planning fits with Dying Matters' broad agenda - to positively change attitudes and behaviour around talking about and planning for death - we'll be happy.

Please get in touch with us if you would like support in organising an awareness event, want to talk through your ideas, or would like help designing a poster for your event.
