Payroll Giving enables your employees to decide how much and to which charities they want to give.
Donations are deducted straight from an employee’s salary each month before the deduction of income tax. Anyone paying the standard rate income tax at 20% can give a £5 donation to the hospice at a cost of just £4.00. The £1.00 that would have gone to the Inland Revenue comes straight to us instead!
If you already have Payroll giving in place:
- Your employees simply need to contact their payroll department who will give them a short form to fill in. The donations will then be deducted from their salary each month and sent to the charity.
If you do not already have payroll giving in place it is quite easy to set up:
- You sign a contract with one of the Government approved agencies, who will guide you through the steps involved.
- It is at no cost to you - the agency deducts the small administrative cost of them running the scheme from the employees’ donations before passing the donations on to us.
- You can find out more information from the following website https://www.gov.uk/running-payroll/deductions.
Some companies also match or part-match their employee donations via Payroll Giving, claiming corporate tax relief on this too.
We can come and talk with your employees about the hospice and how donations via Payroll Giving will help us deliver the hospice services to their local community. Or we can provide posters/leaflets that tell them more about the hospice and Payroll Giving.
