This is where you will find the latest news on all things HospiceCare!
Local Alnwick man, Barry Grieveson, raised £353 for HospiceCare after completing the Wooler Wheel Cycle Challenge, which was held on Saturday 7th October 2017.
On presenting his cheque to HospiceCare Barry said “Having experienced Cancer earlier this year and recovered, it makes you think of all the people who are less fortunate to have care and support around them to help them through life-limiting illnesses. My wife Julia, who volunteers at HospiceCare, and I were reassured to know that the nurses were there for us both if needed.”
HospiceCare needs to raise over £525,000 this year and will only receive 7.5% funding from the NHS the rest has to be generated by fundraising and receiving donations. The money that Barry has donated will support the delivery of 14 hours of Hospice at Home services.
HospiceCare North Northumberland have just had their biggest ever GNR with a record number of 73 runners taking part this year – one being our very own James Willoughby.
Emma Arthur, Events and Community Fundraiser for the hospice said “It’s been another fantastic year for us. It’s such a tremendous feeling to have this support from our local community. Over the last 5 years we have seen our GNR runners grow from just 9 to the 73 who ran for us this year. One of our runners was Doreen Scantlebury, HospiceCare nurse, who said “The Great North Run was a huge challenge for me (double the distance I've done in the past!), the atmosphere was brilliant and although it was very challenging my incentive was to raise money for the HospiceCare.” Doreen crossed the line in 2hrs 04mins.
As a runner myself, It’s always so humbling to greet the runners as they cross the finish line, as I fully appreciate the months of training that goes into preparing for the GNR and the dedication needed to take part. We are very lucky to have this incredible local support. We’re also chuffed that James Willoughby not only came first over the finish line for HospiceCare, with a personal best of 1hr 23mins, but was the 300 GNR runner out of 43,000 finishers.
We've been adopted as their Charity of the Year 2017/218.
Please pop into the Branch and say 'hello' and why not pick up a copy of our latest magazine, Hospice Happenings, whilst you're there.
This is a brilliant fundraising opportunity for HospiceCare as well as a fantastic opportunity to futher raise the profile of our clinical services to the local community.
Instead of giving tradtional favours to your guests, why not consider giving a donation to HospiceCare instead. This is a wonderful way to express your philanthropic side and support your local hospice.
We can provide you with a gift card for each guest, for them to take away as a keepsake of your wedding and your generosity.
